HISTORY |
Our department, which is the oldest Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in Konya, was established in 2008 within the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of Selçuk University and started its educational activities in the same year.
Konya Technical University was established as a new university by Article 7 of Law No. 7141, published in the Official Gazette dated 18 May 2018 (No. 30425), with the addition of Supplementary Article 179 to Law No. 2809. Following this establishment, the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences was formed under the Rectorate of Konya Technical University. Our department has continued its activities under the name of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.
The language of instruction in our department is Turkish, the duration of education is four years, and students are admitted based on national centralized examination scores.
In the Konya region, iron casting, steel casting, aluminum casting, coating production, and quality control activities are carried out extensively. These industries require a significant number of Metallurgical and Materials Engineers. In this context, our graduates contribute to meeting this demand.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION |
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering deals with the design, development, production, and application of engineering materials such as metals, ceramics, and polymers derived from natural or synthetic raw materials of inorganic or organic origin, and adapting their properties to meet the technical requirements of various industrial sectors.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING |
Courses previously completed by students who are admitted through horizontal or vertical transfer, or via national placement examinations, are evaluated by the Departmental Adaptation Commission in accordance with the relevant regulations. Students may be exempted from equivalent courses within the department’s curriculum based on this evaluation.

ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION |
A course-based evaluation system is applied in the department. The assessment process includes:
The final grade is calculated as:
Students who fail the final examination have the right to take a make-up examination.
Student performance is evaluated on a 4.00 grading scale, and letter grades are assigned accordingly (AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, etc.).
To successfully pass a course, a minimum grade of CC is required. However, students with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or above may be considered successful in courses with grades of DD or DC.
Grades FD and FF indicate failure, while grade F indicates failure due to absenteeism or incomplete course requirements, and such students are not eligible to take the final examination.

Our department is affiliated with the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences and offers Master’s and PhD programs in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Graduate programs have been admitting students since 2011.
